Frequently Asked Questions
What does my son need to join Troop 148?
Complete a Scouting America Youth Application.
Before their first campout, complete Parts A & B of the Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record. (Part C must be completed by a health professional before attending Summer Camp or any high adventure activities.)
Get a Scout Book (we recommend getting the protective cover) and Uniform (Class A shirt with HTC should patch and khaki 148 numbers), scout pants/shorts, belt, and socks from the Bloomington Scout Shop (5625 E. State Rd 46, Bloomington, IN 47401).
Note: The Troop has used uniforms available, collected from growing or former Scouts, or donated. It is also possible sometimes to find uniform parts at Goodwill. eBay typically has complete uniform parts available, often at half the cost of new uniforms.
Can my daughter join Troop 148?
Troop 148 is an all Boy Troop. However, Troop 1148, which also meets at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Tuesdays from 7-8:30 p.m., is an all Girl troop with which we work closely. Please email scouttroop1148(at)yahoo(dot)com for more information about Troop 1148.
How does my scout sign up for events?
Once a scout is registered with the Troop, they are added to our Scoutbook.com account. To register for an event:
Log in to Scoutbook
Select My Dashboard.
Select Troop 148 under My Units.
Select Upcoming Events
Then, select the event for which you want to register.
Underneath the information for the event, you will see the names of registered adults and scouts. Click on the scout or adult you want to register and when the box pops up, select Yes, No, or Maybe.
Do parents have to stay for meetings and events?
No, you are not required to stay with your son. However, we can always use more adult volunteers!
How do I become a registered adult volunteer?
Complete a Scouting American Adult Application, including the Criminal Background Check Authorization Form.
Complete the Scouting America Safeguarding Youth Training. If you have a current SYT from involvement with another unit, please turn in a copy of the “Certificate of Completion” with your application.
Complete the Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record, just as they youth do.
Get a uniform. (We strongly encourage adult leaders to wear uniforms to meetings and events to set the example for the youth.)
