We meet every Thursday from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4201 West 3rd Street in Bloomington, Indiana.

Our Troop meets year-round, except for school holidays.

Scouting for Boys

Scouts BSA offers many benefits for boys. The youth develop leadership skills. In fact, the troop is actually run by the boys, and not by the leaders. We emphasize character and value development. The Scout in Scouts is there because of our large involvement in outdoor activities, including camping and hiking. The scouts learn many life skills that will benefit them for life. The boys will have ample opportunity to perform community service. The youth will gain a sense of accomplishment as they work their way up the ranks all the way to Eagle Scout.

At Troop 148, our Adult Leaders are dedicated to training and empowering youth to grow, learn, and lead while having fun. We serve as advisors, trainers, and facilitators who provide a structured, supportive environment for our youth members. We align our time, training, and resources around five core pillars:

Inclusivity: We cultivate and drive personal growth for Scouts of all abilities. Our Adult Leaders provide adaptive coaching, ensuring every youth has the opportunity to build confidence and achieve to the best of their potential.

Activities: We participate in frequent activities. Our program offers everything from single-day outings and weekend campouts to weeks at summer camp, extended trips, and High Adventure—all made available to our Scouts according to their interests and abilities.

Ideals: We inspire our Scouts to live up to the ideals of Scouting. These are represented by the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, the Scout Motto, and the Scout Slogan. Taken together, these four ideals instill an identity of discipline, purpose, and service.

Youth Leadership: We operate a youth-led troop where the Scouts plan and execute their own program, with guidance from the Adult Leaders. By being elected by their peers to guide and direct meetings and activities, our youth gain real world decision making and leadership experience.

Advancement: We actively promote and support the advancement program. By being active and giving their best effort, our Scouts have the opportunity to advance on the Trail to Eagle.

Parental Involvement

While we pride ourselves on being a Scout led unit, we still need parents to keep the Troop functioning. First, we strictly adhere to the Two Deep Leadership model at all times to protect youth from any potential abuse. Second, we always need adults who can mentor and guide our youth, especially the youth leaders. We need parents to help with all the functions needed to keep the troop operating smoothly. And of course, we always need parents who can help transport youth to and from camping and other events!
