Spring Camporee 2025
March 7-9, scouts from across the East and Westside Districts came together for the WILDEST camporee in Maumee Scout Reservation history. Set to an Oregon Trail theme, MSR’s annual Spring Camporee was an immersive adventure that challenged scouts and adult leaders alike to step into a world of survival, strategy, and downright wacky fun!
From the moment troops arrived, it was clear this wasn’t your typical camporee. With role-playing characters, oddball musical instruments, and food challenges that tested even the bravest taste buds, participants were instantly transported to a quirky version of the historic Oregon Trail. Patrols worked together to navigate the trail, facing unique challenges that demanded teamwork, quick thinking, and a good sense of humor. Highlights from the weekend included:
Oregon Trail Course: Patrols faced obstacle after obstacle, trying to make it to the end without losing too many “oxen” or getting stuck in metaphorical river crossings.
Gold Panning: With help from the Indiana Gold Prospectors Association, scouts got hands-on experience sifting for real gold!
Bluegrass Jam: A toe-tapping performance by a live bluegrass band had everyone dancing by the campfire.
Trapping Demos: The Indiana Trappers Association offered fascinating lessons in wilderness survival and traditional trapping.
Blacksmithing: Scouts watched live blacksmith demos and got to ask questions about the trade and techniques of the forge.
Cooking Competitions: Troupes brought the heat with creative culinary concoctions—bonus points if it was trail-themed!
Bartertown: A bustling hub of trading, games, and hilarious role-play that made this camporee feel like a living, breathing world of its own.
If you missed it, you missed big. But don't worry, the Hoosier Trails Council is already dreaming up next year’s amazing Spring Camporee! Until then, happy trails!
